Think this gem went unnoticed. This is the President of the United States. If it was the best man at a wedding who'd had too many beers I'd be embarrassed on his behalf.

More lies from Trump. America isn't owed any money. Anyone with any understanding of NATO (direct and indirect funding) will know this but I guess his supporters will be lapping this up because they are clueless.

Also, the core reason for NATO's existence is a mutual defence agreement known as Article 5 where all countries are obliged to help out if anyone is attacked. In the 70 years of NATO's existence, Article 5 has only been invoked once and that was by the USA after 9/11, which means that so far, it's been the rest of NATO that has come the USA's assistance not the other way round.

So why is NATO a bad deal for the USA? Without it, they'd either be on their own in Afghanistan or with a very small number of allies, not the 50+ countries that have been involved in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

"Germany is a captive of Russia. Relying on their gas for Energy"

The most diverse energy producers in Europe being told by Trumpet they are Russia's bitch in front of TV cameras.

What a negotiator.

So it looks like Trump got the 60/70% figure correct but it's not of energy from Russia it's gas and gas makes up less than 20% of German energy requirements so 12% from Russia that's not exactly reliant on Russia for their energy needs.

"The commodities brokerage Marex Spectron told Reality Check that about 60% of Germany's gas was imported from Russia, with most of the rest coming from Norway.

But that does not mean that 60% of Germany's energy comes from Russia - Germany's energy mix for power production is about 40% coal, more than 30% renewables, less than 20% gas and 10% nuclear, according to Marex Spectron."

Just another example of Trump twisting facts to suit his own agenda.

The real figure is actually 9%

Just watching Trump’s press conference on the NATO summit. Does anyone really take him seriously? Apparently, the other countries have agreed to increase their spending like "you’ve never seen before". The numbers are unbelievable and the spirit in the room was just great.

The USA spends 3.64% of GDP on defence, this includes:
  • A huge Pacific present to deter China, North Korea and Russia and also stopping Japan re-arming and South Korea from developing its own nuclear deterrent
  • Space Wars
  • The war on terror
  • Operations in the middle east and Afganistan
  • As well as NATO
So in effect, the US is one of the smallest contributors to NATO in terms of GDP, unfortunately, it doesn't look like Trump understands this or he just doesn't care.

Not my words, Colonel Ralph Peters (retired) former US army intelligence.

Correct.

"Trump’s assertion that the pipeline will provide 60 to 70 percent of Germany’s energy is incorrect. While Russia will be able to increase the amount of natural gas it sells to Germany through the pipeline, Russian gas will only provide a sliver of the overall energy Germany needs. Germany’s energy comes from a diverse mix of oil, coal and renewables. Less than one-fifth of the country’s power is powered by natural gas; at the moment, just 9 percent of the country’s power is generated by Russian gas."

And for Trump to attack Germany over such a thing is pretty pathetic, considering, by comparison, what percentage of U.S. oil imports are being provided by Russia?

U.S. reliance on oil imports has fallen as shale oil production has ramped up. Russian oil imports peaked at 624,000 barrels per day in 2011. However, in 2017 the U.S. still imported 384,000 barrels per day of crude oil and products from Russia:

proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fthumbor.forbes.com%2Fthumbor%2F960x0%2Fhttps%253A%252F%252Fblogs-images.forbes.com%252Frrapier%252Ffiles%252F2018%252F07%252FRussian-Crude-Imports.jpg&hash=ab67032a3c5781017491c9f44dd4b4fa

Incidentally, assuming $50 per barrel for those barrels means the U.S. spent about $7 billion on Russian oil in 2017.

Total U.S. imports in 2017 were 10.075 million barrels per day. The Russian contribution was then about 3.8% of U.S., certainly not in the range of Germany's reliance on Russian natural gas.

Russia was the 6th most important supplier of U.S. crude oil in 2017. The U.S. reliance on foreign crude in 2017 was higher for imports from Canada (39.9%), Saudi Arabia (9.4%), Mexico (6.8%), Venezuela (6.7%), and Iraq (6.0%).

Seems like President Trump forgot about that or maybe he doesn't see that as a problem.

He's not going to be happy when he hears about this, it'll be another 'Canada' moment no doubt

Nato allies have cast doubt on US President Donald Trump's claim they had pledged to "substantially" raise their defence budgets, saying they simply remained committed to a 2014 deal.

Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg told US broadcaster CNN the allies had "a commitment to spend 2%" of their annual output (GDP) on defence budgets.

Members agreed four years ago they would all reach that target by 2024.

Mr Trump had hailed "tremendous progress" at Nato's summit in Brussels.

So Trump has said that Theresa May's Brexit deal will "kill" any future us trade deal and that Boris Johnson "has what it takes" to be Prime Minister.

I'd say Theresa May is happy she invited him now!

He’s more or less suggested the white paper in his view is a load of crap from a US point of view and he won’t deal with us unless we have a fully fledged or the so-called "hard brexit" otherwise he is "dealing with the EU and not Britain". He’s single-handedly dividing Europe. It’s a very serious situation.
