Red Dead Online is on track for release “towards the end of the month,” according to Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick.

We knew Red Dead Redemption 2’s online modes were due in November, with Zelnick at least giving us a little more clarity on the launch of the beta. You have at least a couple more weeks to finish the epic story mode.

Zelnick’s comments come after Take-Two announced Red Dead Redemption 2 has shipped over 17 million units since launch – that’s more in its first eight days than the original shipped in its first eight years.

Answering a question from investors about sales predictions for Red Dead Online, Zelnick wouldn’t be drawn, but offered up the release prediction: “It will launch in public beta towards the end of the month.”

He also declined to go into any details about monetisation in Red Dead Online.

Karl Slatoff, president of Take-Two, chimed in with a few minor details about Red Dead Online, none of which should be a surprise, but he did clarify Red Dead Online can be played solo.

“Red Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative game-play in fun new ways,” he said.

“Using the gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, the vast world of Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players. Access to Red Dead Online will be free with the purchase of Red Dead Redemption 2 on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One”

Rockstar Games has just released a new Patch 1.03 for Red Dead Redemption 2. The size of the update is approx 5.64 GB and as per the details revealed in the official Patch Notes, the update adds support for the much awaited Red Dead Online Beta, and carries fix for some of the nasty bugs and issues including crashing, stuttering, and lag. You guys can check out the official Patch Notes below.
  • Added support for Red Dead Online Beta.
  • Added fixes for crashing issues with Red Dead Redemption 2 version 1.03.
  • Added fixes for stuttering/lag issues.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 1.03 for PS4 has fixed some glitches.
  • Added fixes for framerate drop and freezing issues.
  • Added performance and stability improvements.
  • Gameplay improvements added with Red Dead Redemption 2 1.03.
  • Added other minor fixes and changes with Red Dead Redemption 2 version 1.03.
With the release of Patch 1.03, expect the Red Dead Online beta to go live soon as well. You will be able to access it via the TITLE MENU, all you have to do is reboot Red Dead Redemption 2, and at the TITLE MENU, you will see an option in the top right of the screen to select Online.

Red Dead Online beta will be available today only to the players who owned Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate Edition. Rockstar Games have decided to release Red Dead Online beta in phases and it will be available to all Red Dead Redemption 2 owners by November 30.

Red Dead Online modes
Firstly, there will be a maximum of 32 players in each Red Dead Online instance at launch, with players able to form a Posse of up to 8 players. The player count may rise after launch.

If you want to play solo, that’s absolutely fine. There will be multiple missions available to play either solo, co-op or competitively, and you should expect these to be given to you by a few familiar faces from Red Dead Redemption 2. In fact, there’s a whole bunch of missions available that also take into account your Honor Rating.

When it comes to multiplayer modes, we know of five so far: Most Wanted, Make It Count, Name Your Weapon, Team Shootout, Hostile Territory and a bunch of Races.

Players can hunt, fish and create a camp, and of course visit all the locations on the map that were in Red Dead Redemption 2.

You’ll be able to attack enemy gangs and their hideouts, as well as take on other players and Posses in spontaneous fights. You can even lasso your pals and hogtie them for a bit of BDSM fun.

Looking at the Achievements and Trophies in Red Dead Redemption 2 we can see that players will be rewarded for forming a persistent Posse, much like GTA Online gangs.

There will also be Free Roam events, again, similar to GTA Online, where events kick off in the world every 30 minutes or so. You can choose to ignore them if you wish, or join them with other players.

More on Red Dead Redemption 2 Online.

Much like GTA Online, Red Dead Online will have what appears to be an overarching narrative running through the mode's various missions and activities.

While we don't yet know if the story missions in RDRO will connect in any way to the game's mainline story, we do have the names and descriptions of several missions:
  • Highly Illegal and Highly Immoral: Marshall Davies asked you to meet him near Van Horn. He is on the trail of Alfredo Montez and he wants to finish things.

  • Honor Among Horse Thieves: Horley suggested you go to see Clay Davies, a horse thief, to learn the ins and outs of the horse-rustling trade.

  • If the Hat Fits…: Horley directed you towards the Blackwater police chief in Pike’s Basin. A conman and outlaw is on the loose. Whether or not justice will be done depends on your Honor.

  • Kerosene, Tar, and Greed: Horley thought you should offer your services to Samson Finch near Dewberry Creek. Industry is in his crosshairs. He has a job to do and a score to settle.

  • Kill Them, Each and Every One: You were told to meet Horley and Mrs. LeClerk south of Armadillo. The man who killed her husband may be holed up nearby.

  • Love and Honor: Horley told you to call on the Tumbleweed Sheriff. A young woman has been taken by a gang of outlaws and her husband is concerned. A moral decision will be required.
Throughout these missions, you'll be working for - or at least receiving your objectives - from a man named Horley. You'll also find yourself riding all over the Red Dead Redemption 2 map, from Van Horn to Valentine and beyond.

Morality also appears to be an important factor in these missions, as many will require you to make specific choices that will impact your Honor. And although it hasn't been confirmed, your Honor rank should impact how NPCs react to you in Online's world, as well as what items and buffs you're able to obtain, just like it does in RDR 2.

A new mode called Gun Rush goes live for Red Dead Online today.

Gun Rush is a new 32-player mode for Red Dead Online which tasks you with gathering weapons and ammunition while the play area shrinks.

It is playable in Free-for-all and Team variations, and the last one standing wins.

Xbox One users can also now access the Red Chestnut Arabian Horse, Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle, and the High Roller Double-Action Revolver in the beta.

More updates to the Red Dead Online beta are in the works, including Races and Showdown Modes, along with new clothing and emotes.

You can expect more features, refinements, and stability improvements to be applied over the course of the beta.

Additional changes based on player feedback are planned and include the following, per Rockstar.
  • Daily Challenges: Tackle new challenges each day covering every aspect of the game, from sharpshooting to evading the law.
  • Law and Bounty Upgrades: Some changes are coming to the way the Law and Bounty systems work in Red Dead Online to reduce the enticements for griefing. Soon, players will get a bounty for committing crimes and will be incentivized to pay them off within an allotted time. Wait too long and bounty hunters from each of the states will track the player forcing them to either pay up or escape.
  • Parley Changes: We’re making the Parley system easier to trigger so that you can avoid aggressive players more quickly. In addition, it will be easier to trigger Feuds, Posse Feuds and Leader Feuds to take on attacking players in structured competition.
  • Proximity-Based Player Blips: Player location blips will soon appear only over short distances, reducing the range at which you are visible to others, decreasing the likelihood of being targeted by another player across large areas. Down the line, we’re also looking to introduce the ability to identify players who grief and kill indiscriminately with a progressively darkening blip that becomes more visible and at a longer range, so everyone in a session can identify potentially dangerous opponents at a glance and from a safe distance.
More to Come this year
  • All-new missions to build on your Story in A Land Of Opportunities – from previously established characters like Horley and Jessica LeClerk, and some new ones as well.
  • A range of Dynamic Events throughout the world
  • Lots of new competitive modes including new Showdown Modes and Races
  • New weapons and clothing
  • Lots more not ready to be shared just yet

The next set of updates and new features are coming to Red Dead Online later this month.

Rockstar Games has announced an update will be released for the Red Dead Online beta at the end of February.

Updates will include Posse-wide Parleys, a Law and Bounty system, weapon balancing, changes to player blips on the mini-map and more.

The update will also “minimize certain types of destructive player behavior,” thanks to changes made to player blips on the map.

Red Dead Online players will find visibility of blips reduced over long distances, and your map position won’t display to other players unless you are within 150 meters. If you are slightly further away, you will only appear when firing your weapon.

Players in other towns or regions won’t be visible, as it will prevent players from being repeatedly targeted across the map at long distances.

A new system which highlights overly aggressive players will be added. If you become rather hostile, your map position, as well as the position of your Posse members, will become more visible. Your dot will also progressively darken by incrementally shifting from blue to dark red.

Your visibility will increase when you perform “bad deeds” such as attacking and killing players on their horse outside of a structured mode, Free Roam Mission, event or competition. The shorter the time between bad acts, the more your visibility increases. Visibility will fade over time if you start behaving a bit better.

Improvements are being made to Feuds and Posse-wide Parleys are being introduced.

Posse-wide Parleys will allow you to initiate Parley that applies to your attacker’s entire Posse after a single kill. If you would rather challenge an opponent, just initiate a Feud, Posse Feud or Leader Feud after one kill. This will “quickly turn a dispute” into a timed mini-deathmatch in Free Roam, earning points for each kill on the opposing player.

Another update will find players with high bounties being chased down by NPC Bounty Hunters. With this update to the Bounty Hunters system, your criminal behavior will have bounty values and honor consequences.

This will scale based on the severity of the crime. Killing another player will resort in a higher bounty, and if you slap around someone who lives in town or are an asshole to animals, the bounty won’t be as high. They should make the latter a bit higher, but we’re not a game developer.

Should you loot or ransack a place, or commit a lower level crime, it will only decrease your honor.

If your bounty exceeds a certain amount, the bounty will switch to “wanted dead”, and you will be and alerted to Bounty Hunters on pursuit. The higher your bounty, the greater your value and the more difficult the pursuit becomes for you and your Posse.

If your bounty exceeds a certain threshold and Bounty Hunters are made aware of it, you will be “wanted dead” and alerted to their pursuit. The higher your bounty, the greater your value and the more difficult the pursuit becomes for you and your Posse.

Rockstar will also add a variety of Daily Challenges to Red Dead Online. Completing these objectives will earn you Gold Nuggets and XP. Challenges will range from foraging for herbs, fencing items, hunting and skinning animals, clearing hideouts, winning Feuds, and more.

These Daily Challenges will continue to expand and evolve over time with a variety of bonuses.

Several additional changes based on community feedback are being made, according to the studio. This includes re-balancing select weapons such as the Varmint Rifle, and voice chat will be reduced to work at closer proximity.

Fixes to horse cargo “are numerous and ongoing,” and the studio plans to introduce improvements to making pelts and carcasses more persistent after death or respawning.

More details on the February 26 update will be provided next week.

Rockstar Games has provided additional information on next week’s Red Dead Online update, along with news regarding timed-content for PS4.

The next set of updates and new features are coming to Red Dead Online next week, along with PS4 Early Access Content.

Last week, Rockstar mentioned Free Roam Events, new Showdown Modes, and new Races were on the way along with new clothes, weapons and various game improvements and balances.

Special promotions will also star occurring weekly, similar to GTA Online.

Here’s what you can expect next week on February 26 when the update is released – straight from Rockstar.

New Gameplay
  • Fool’s Gold Free Roam Event – Players will compete to control a suit of Golden Armour. Fight to take down the armour wearer to earn points and claim it as your own, then turn the tables and earn points for kills while wearing the armour.
  • Competitive Challenges: Fishing Challenges – Fishing Challenges are broken out by type, opt into the challenge and you’ll receive all the equipment necessary to compete including the rod as well lures and bait specific to the challenge type. Bait includes crickets, crayfish, and worms. Catch the highest weight total of fish to win. During these challenges, you will remain safe from the nuisance of “trigger-happy outlaws.”
  • Three Showdown Modes – Players and teams compete to capture and deliver bags, steal loot from each other and survive. Stay tuned for more details around Up in Smoke, Spoils of War and Plunder. Races will also see a new variation with Target Races where players shoot targets from horseback to pass checkpoints as they race along a track to the finish line.
New Weapons
  • B.D. and Co. is turning out the high grade, high capacity Evans Repeater rifle. The Rare Shotgun is D.D. Packenbush’s latest variation of the powerful double-barreled longarm. Sporting an antique style faded brass finish and an artfully adorned stock. Both weapons will be available via the Wheeler & Rawson Catalogue and local Gunsmiths.
New Clothing and Emotes
  • A wide range of new clothing will be made available, including the snake-adorned Diamondback Hat and the fur-trimmed Rutledge Vest. Expect plenty of new Outfits, Jackets, Boots, Coats, Gloves, Hats, Vests and more. In addition to all the clothing that will be available for purchase, keep an eye on the shops and the Catalogue for special items that will come and go. A variety of new Emotes is also on the way – featuring everything from greets to reactions and taunts.
PS4 Early Access Content
  • In addition to new Target Races, PlayStation 4 players will have early access to Open Target Races where you compete in an open space to take out the most targets on horseback. PS4 players will also get early access to the Jawbone Knife, a unique melee weapon with a handle artfully carved from the remains of a slain animal’s jaw, as well as a range of new clothing options and three new Emotes.
Bonus XP This Week
  • Play the Red Dead Online Beta all this week to earn 20% more XP on all activities ahead of the launch of the February 26 update. New bonuses, giveaways, promotions and content updates will be coming weekly.
