Ghost Recon Breakpoint was officially revealed as an evolution to Wildlands, which now boasts 15 million players worldwide.

Ubisoft announced Ghost Recon Breakpoint today and it takes place on an island in the middle of the Pacific called Auroa.

The island has been turned into a military base, so don’t expect a vacation destination. This area is the base of operations for Skell Tech, a company which produces autonomous drones – deadly ones.

According to the reveal, the island map features various biomes such as snowy mountains, forests, and an active volcano.

You can also expect new weapons and attachments adding to the options Wildlands players are familiar with. You can expect improved A.I., a new variety of enemies, PvP, and your character will have one clear progression path across all modes.

Wildlands content update Operation Oracle does indeed tie-in to Breakpoint, as it stars Ghost Team Leader, Cole Walker, played by Jon Bernthal. Here's the synopsis
The Wolves, a lethal ex-US Military unit of former Ghosts gone rogue, have taken over the island. Led by Nomad’s ex-brother-in-arms, Lt. Colonel Cole D. Walker, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, they have reprogrammed Skell’s drones into killing machines and are ready to use them, no matter the casualties. Nomad and the Ghosts are sent in on a recon mission, but their helicopters are shot down. Injured, without support, and hunted down, players will live an intense military experience as they fight to survive, take down the Wolves and regain control of Auroa.
During the stream, Ubisoft also announced the Gold, Ultimate and Wolves Collector’s Editions for the game, as well as the standalone Ubicollectibles figurine of Nomad. The Collector’s Edition leaked yesterday.
  • The Gold Edition will include the base game and the Year 1 Pass.
  • The Ultimate Edition will include the base game, the Year 1 Pass and the Ultimate Pack.
  • The Wolves Collector’s Edition will include the base game, the Year 1 Pass, the Ultimate Pack, a Ubicollectibles figurine of Lt. Colonel Cole D. Walker, a Steelbook, exclusive lithographs, Walker’s dog tag, and a waterproof map of Auroa as well as the soundtrack.
  • The standalone Ubicollectibles figurine of Nomad is available for pre-order on the Ubisoft store.
Purchasing either of the editions mentioned will give you access to the game three days early. If you pre-order an addition, standard included, you will receive access to the beta closer to launch, as well as the Sentinel Corp. pack which includes exclusive gear.

According to Ubisoft, Ghost Recon Breakpoint can be played solo or in four-player co-op. While trudging around the various terrain on the island of Auroa, you will have to contend with steep slopes, injuries, and the fatigue system.

Breakpoint features an open-world map, providing you with “total freedom to accomplish your missions,” with a bevvy of tactical options and tools.

This includes a new set of military features such as:
  • the ability to carry enemies and teammates’ bodies
  • blend into your environment with prone camo
  • set up camp with teammates in the bivouac to manage equipment
  • change classes
  • and fine-tune your strategies.

The studio promises “thousands of customization combinations” to make a Ghost to your liking. You will also be able to keep your character and progression through the game, in both the main campaign and PvP which will be available at release.

After launch, expect regular updates featuring new story arcs, classes, features and a new type of endgame content: Raids.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint releases October 4 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Looks good to me. Really enjoyed Wildlands. This looks like more of the same with some extras like using mud as camouflage, sustaining injuries from conflict, hiding bodies to avoid detection etc.

There are various editions available for pre-order – which include the Year 1 Pass.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint was announced today alongside Year 1 content and various editions featuring extra goodies.

The Year 1 Pass will feature two new adventures on the island of Auroa. These are called Deep State and Transcendence, and an additional mission at launch, Siren’s Call, will be available as well.

It also comes with one-week early access to three new character classes, which will be released throughout the year, and the Special Operations Forces Pack. This includes the Quiet DMR, Covered ACH, Crye G3 Combat Pants, and Cross Draw Vest.

Those who pre-order any edition of the game will gain access to the beta, and at release, unlock the Sentinel Corp. Pack.

This provides customers with three in-game exclusive items: the Valor assault rifle, the Sentinel Mk. 2 Assault set, and the Hammer Mk. 2 digital vehicles.

More details about the story, environment, new features and gameplay

Story:
  • Jace Skell, tech genius, becoming the master villain in GR Breakpoint
  • Ghosts are being shot down over the island as they were infiltrating via helicopter.
  • First gameplay shows Ghost lead being chased down by the Wolves, visibly injured and only firing back occasionally, falling and sliding down a hill, trying to escape. NO teammates visible at this point.
  • Masked elite soldiers with cloaks "The Wolves" will hunt you down. They have reprogrammed Skell Techs drones to assist them. They're being led by Jon Bernthals Cole D. Walker (from Operation Oracle). You will be spending time with him, before he becomes one of the main antagonists of the game.
  • Skell Tech and its AI-drones are playing an important role
Environment:
  • The game takes place on the fictional Island "Aurora"
  • Auroa at launch bigger than the whole map in Widllands today
    • Map inspired by islands of the Pacific Ocean
    • island infrastructure is self-sustainable
    • Several different biomes, snow, jungle, lava, many more
  • Open world (obviously)
  • Enemy drones and infantry units are constantly patrolling/surveying the area.
  • New enemy archetypes (rocket-gunner (like a rocket-sniper), breacher (n, uses shock grenades, and shotgun ) and the heavy (huge mini-gun, heavily armoured) more coordination of enemies when they go up against you.
Gameplay / Movement / Gunplay:
  • Campaign can be played fully in Co-Op
  • Four levels of difficulty
  • The game features heavier stealth elements as Wildlands, hiding is a key element.
  • Drones are back
  • Sync-Shot is still in the game, drones can be used to sync up the shots.
  • More weapon mods impacting gunplay heavier than before
  • Wounded teammates can be picked up and carried to safety.
  • Killed enemies can be carried and hidden out of sight.
New Features:
  • Patching yourself up takes a lot longer than in Wildlands. You can now suffer serious injuries, forcing you to adopt your tactics. Also indicating a more tactical and methodical playstyle.
    • Several Wound Tiers: Tier 1, limping, Tier 2, moving becomes difficult, Tier 3, Ghost stops running, stumbling limping, only sidearms, healing through bandages or syringes.
  • New CQC takedowns, developed by an ex Green Beret, based on the melee weapon you have equiped (karambit, knives etc.) melee weapons can be customized as well.
  • You can now use your surroundings (read dirt, mud, snow, leaves etc.) to camouflage. Called "Prone Camo"
  • Cutting open fences is part of the new "breaching kit". You will find this at some point in the campaign.
  • Movement seems to be slower, feeling weightier, and less arcade-style as it was in Wildlands. This should make for a more tactical experience.
  • BLOUSED BOOTS!
  • Wounded teammates can be picked up and carried to safety.
  • Killed enemies can be carried and hidden out of sight.
  • You can now bivouac in the wild to regain health and change classes.
    • also supposed to slow down gameplay, making for moments of respite, giving you time to plan
Solo-Play:
  • When playing alone, the game can ONLY be played as a solo operative (lone wolf style), with NO AI teammates.
    • When downed while playing alone, you need to patch yourself up, with no teammates around to help.
  • Team-play only available online in PVE MP or PVP.
PVP:
  • PvP available at launch. Character will carry from PVE through PVP
    • Shared progression with gear, skills in both modes
    • no bullet-spongy enemies, headshots = kill
    • More info about the character to be shown at the Ubisoft E3 2019 press conference
  • Classes make a come-back in the series
    • Four available at launch
    • Sharpshooter, Panther were shown in the stream
    • Sharpshooter = obviously the sniper class, up to three special ammo bullets, dealing extra damage, can hold breath longer, more stability during aiming, faster reloading of long-range weapons
    • Panther = stealth-based, quickly engaging at close range, out of the shadows and back,, smoke bombs to become invisible for a few seconds, counter-attacks are a thing, no loud or heavy weapons, suppressed weapons only, compensating this by moving faster
  • More PVP info in August at gamescom
Post-Launch-Content:
  • Four months after launch the first Expansion with the first raid in Ghost Recon MP history ever will be added.
  • PVP maps will be similar to the areas you come across in PVE
  • Post-launch content:
    • Raid, takes place in an active volcano, hardest mission in the game, will be 4-player-co-op only, no solo-play of the raid
    • Year 1 Pass, three episodes, Episode 1: Fall 2019 - Winter 2019, Episode 2: Spring 2020 - Summer 2020, Episode 3: Fall 2020
    • No battle royale mode at launch
    • Franchise cross-overs very probable, no info was given in the post-show though

I really enjoyed the campaign in Wildlands, the open world was absolutely amazing. I did make the mistake of playing it on 'normal' setting, but it was still fun in co-op even if it was fairly repetitive. After finishing the campaign I stopped playing, didn't have interest in pvp.

So, if this is not just a reskin like Far Cry New Dawn, then I'm very excited.

The Breakpoint map will be a similar size to Wildlands, maybe a bit bigger.

Like Wildlands, Breakpoint will feature a big open-world sandbox perfect to explore and dump hours of gameplay into. At the moment, Ubisoft isn't going into specifics about the game's size, but game director Eric Couzian did confirm that the map will be at least as large as the map in Wildlands, possibly bigger. Meanwhile, Ubisoft also isn't ready to divulge an hour estimation for the game, but Couzian did note that Breakpoint will come packing "many, many hours of gameplay," which will only be added to post-launch through raids and expansions. In other words, like Wildlands, Breakpoint will very much be a live-service-esq title.

Ghost Recon Wildlands was a pretty meaty game content wise, so Breakpoint being roughly similar in size and scope will be welcomed news for those hoping to suck out a lot of hours from the military shooter.

Ubisoft have also revealed that players who choose to venture into the story on their own won’t be accompanied by a squad of AI companions. Instead, players will make use of a drone capable of offering aid with the Sync Shot feature. This is quite the departure from Ghost Recon: Wildlands, which gave solo players three AI squad members to fill out a team of four.

During an interview following the Breakpoint reveal, Ubisoft developers explained the reasoning behind the drastic change between the two titles. The key reason seems to be to reinforce the feeling of loneliness, given Breakpoint’s core premise. Trying to convey the notion of being stranded alone in the wilderness doesn’t exactly hit the mark if AI companions are roaming about, as well. Community Developer Laura Cordrey addressed this in an interview, she revealed
There are multiple reasons. Firstly, we offered the option to turn off AI companions in Wildlands, and players really liked that full solo experience. Secondly, with the story here [in Breakpoint], you’re stranded alone behind enemy lines, so we really want players to be able to dive into this fantasy. But we also offer the mechanics so that the game is fully playable in solo and co-op. Those who want to have the solo experience can, and players who want to have the four-player co-op experience can as well – we just want to offer as much variation as possible.
Cordrey’s comment appears to ignore Breakpoint also being touted as a co-op experience, where players can squad up in teams of four. How does this comply with the game’s narrative? Apparently, a pretty sensible explanation will be offered in-game. Lead Developer Sebastien Le Prestre revealed, “When you do originally crash land on the island you come in on one of four choppers. [So] for the narrative’s sake there are more survivors in the other choppers.”

Unfortunately, Cordrey’s and Le Prestre’s statements fail to address one potentially notable issue. How does one drone serve as a substitute for three companions in single-player? Will the drone’s Sync Shot feature also include multi-shot capabilities? Here’s to hoping such concerns will soon receive some form of clarification.
