66194-1.jpg Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. Serving as the sixteenth overall instalment in the Call of Duty series, as well as a reboot of the Modern Warfare sub-series, it was released on October 25, 2019, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The game is set to take place in a realistic and modern setting. For the first time in the franchise's history, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will support cross-platform multiplayer.

Modern Warfare's single-player campaign will focus on realism and feature tactically-based moral choices whereupon the player is evaluated and assigned a score at the end of each level; players will have to quickly ascertain whether NPCs are a threat or not, such as a civilian woman who is believed to be reaching for a gun, but then simply grabs her baby from a crib. This collateral damage score, referred to as a threat assessment, is based on how many civilians the player injures or kills and ranges from rank A to F. Rewards are introduced to those who score higher. Character dialogue will differ depending on the choices the player makes in the game. Tactical decisions are also included, such as the player using a sniper rifle in a large environment to approach objectives in a non-linear order, and choosing to shoot out lights in favour of using night-vision goggles during breaching and clearing.

The game's multiplayer has been revised to allow for more tactical gameplay, including a focus on map exploration, door breaching, and a "Realism" mode that removes the HUD. The mini-map has been removed in favor of a compass-style marker, with visual cues to detect friendlies and opponents. Multiplayer also features the return of Killstreaks (rewards based on kills), with more recent Call of Duty titles having used Scorestreaks (rewards based on score) instead. The online modes allow for a larger range of players within a map than previous instalments, with a new mode called "Ground War" featuring over 100 players while conversely another new mode, "Gunfight", tasks two teams of two players against each other in small matches lasting forty seconds per round. The game includes an extensive weapons customization system, presenting most guns with a range of up to 60 attachments to choose from (five of which can be equipped at any one time). The introduction at the start of multiplayer matches has also been revamped; while in previous titles players would remain motionless on the map as a timer would countdown to zero, players will instead be transported into the battle zone as part of various animations.

Modern Warfare will be the first game in the series since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts not to feature a Zombies mode, instead featuring the cooperative "Spec Ops" mode previously present in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The Spec Ops mode shares its narrative with both the campaign and multiplayer. The mode will include survival mode which was present in Modern Warfare 3, but is exclusive to the PlayStation 4 release until October 2020

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare won’t feature a Season Pass, but it will feature cross-play support between PC and consoles.

According to Infinity Ward’s creative director and co-studio head, Patrick Kelly, every design decision has been made “with players in mind.”

“With the launch of Modern Warfare, we’re taking steps to unite the community,” he said in the PR. “First, we plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support.

“Second, we’re eliminating the traditional season pass.”

In lieu of a Season Pass, Activision will instead deliver “more free maps and content” as well as post-launch events to all players.

More information is promised soon, which more than likely means at E3 2019.

Infinity Ward will reveal the multiplayer universe for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on August 1.

The full reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer will be held on August 1 through a Twitch livestream.

During the stream the studio will show how the story in the game will continue online and how unified progression across modes will work.

The game will support cross-play across platforms and removes the traditional season pass. So, expect more free maps, content and community events post-launch.

Earlier today, the first glimpse of the game’s close-quarters duo-based combat mode, 2v2 Gunfight, was shown live on Twitch by multiple Call of Duty streamers.

According to the information provided, 2v2 Gunfight is a four-player mode where two small teams participate in “multi-round cage matches.“ The duo to win six rounds will be declared the winners.

The mode features a series of custom-made, confined maps. All four players have the same loadout which will switch every two rounds. Infinity Ward said a typical loadout is a “Primary weapon, a Secondary weapon, a Tactical Grenade (like a Flashbang), and a piece of Lethal Equipment (like a frag grenade).”

Round last 40 seconds before Overtime kicks in signaling a flag to spawn. The flag will only spawn though if one or both players of each duo are still alive when Overtime starts. At this point, either team has 10 seconds to capture the flag, which has a three second capture time.

During Overtime, the winner is the team which captures the flag or defeats the opposing team. If no one defeats the other team or captures the flag, the duo with the higher health wins. If both sides have the same amount of health, the round is a draw.

Three of the maps included in 2v2 Gunfight were shown today:
  • King: The interior of a warehouse
  • Pine: The exterior of a dense forest
  • Stack: A desert container yard
Check out a clip of the mode from TeePee below.

Activision has officially confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will not feature any sort of purchasable Season Pass. While Season Passes have been a series and industry staple in recent years, Activision is adopting a different business model. Instead of a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season Pass, the game will receive regular free content updates.

Why There Won’t be a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season Pass

With more games moving to the “games-as-a-service” model, paid DLC expansions are becoming less common. Instead, companies are shifting towards continuous content updates. While some games are combining this with a Season Pass, some have begun to phase passes out. Instead, the array of free content is used to keep players engaged and incentivise the sale of micro-transactions, etc. It seems that Activision has decided to make use of this model with Modern Warfare.

Of course, the lack of a Season Pass doesn’t mean a reduction in post-launch content. Speaking at the recent multiplayer unveiling event about the lack of a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season Pass, Design Director Joe Cecot said;

“We just revealed, so it’s a little early to talk post-launch, but we can say that it will be a regular distribution of content. We have a very full post-launch schedule, because we want players to jump into our game and we want to keep them really busy with new content for a long time.”

As such, fans may be able to expect a post-launch schedule more akin to a game like Battlefield 5; i.e. continuous seasons of free content updates, weekly events, and so on, supported through the sale of wholly cosmetic microtransactions. For a game like Call of Duty, Activision is likely to invest a lot of their available resources into providing plenty of new content. Certainly, in both the short- and mid-term, at the very least.

Activision has released the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launch trailer a couple of weeks early.

It’s as action packed as you’d expect, and features Enter Sandman by Metallica as the backing track. Nice, we could all use a little Metallica in our lives.

The game is out on October 25 and features a single-player storyline focusing on Captain Price and the SAS working with the CIA and the Urzikstani Liberation Force to retrieve stolen chemical weapons.

You will travel from London to the Middle East and other global locations, as this joint task force battles through “betrayals, moral dilemmas, and no-win situations to stop full scale global war.”

As far as multiplayer goes, there are plenty of modes on offer alongside 20v20, 32v32, and the 50v50 Ground War. There may be up to 40 modes available for the game at some point, according to dataminers, and maybe even battle royale.

Activision has updated the minimum and recommended PC requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The full minimum and recommended PC specs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have been posted, and little has changed since beta.

Specs changing from beta to a full release is never unexpected, and quite common, actually.

While there aren’t too many changes from the beta, you will notice differences between required hard drive space and RAM. The jump in free space is the largest change, as you will note.

Hard drive space jumped from 45GB of free space to 175GB for both minimum and recommend. RAM for recommended specs was lowered from 16GB to 12GB.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PC specs
Minimum Requirements
  • Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit (SP1) or Windows 10 64-bit

Special Ops Operations and Missions have also been detailed for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare along with the PS4 timed-exclusive mode Special Ops Survival.

Available on all platforms when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases, Spec-Ops has been re-imagined as a collection of “expansive, interconnected Operations against a new and encroaching threat.”

According to information provided today, you and other players will form strike-teams of four to “execute multi-phased objectives.” Each will advance the story of the game.

These Spec Ops Operations are dynamic as enemy forces will react to choices made. Depending upon how you go about things, enemies may send out more soldiers, helicopters or deploy a Juggernaut to combat your team.

Operations will take place on a wide variety of maps, with the largest and most “involved” set in the city of Verdansk. Killstreaks and revivals will be accessible in Special Ops alongside various vehicles and helicopters.

At launch, there will be four multi-stage Operations available with more scheduled to come throughout the post launch seasons. All post launch Operations and Missions will be coming to all platforms simultaneously.

As far as the separate Survival Ops mode announced for PS4 is concerned, it is an additional wave-based horde mode known as Special Ops Survival. Exclusive to PS4 until October 1, 2020, it pits you and up to three of your friends against enemy forces on one of three multiplayer maps.

Here’s more intel on Spec Ops for all platforms straight from Activision.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Special Ops Operations
  • Operations: As you infiltrate into one of the many war-torn zones within Special Ops, you and your team have full latitude on how to accomplish your Operations. This Special Ops game mode is a 4 player matchmade activity centred around interconnected experiences that take the form of objectives, each culminating in the removal or destruction of a key logistical aspect of the Al-Qatala army.
  • Employ different strategies. Go in quietly or tackle the insurrection head-on. The enemy reacts to your team’s decisions, meaning the outcome of any battle can change.
  • Missions: Complementing the multi-stage Operations, and also available across all platforms, are additional Missions, which can be played solo or with up to four players. Whereas Operations give you the widest breadth of strategic and tactical choice, Missions are a more curated experience where your proficiency with specific weapons, killstreaks, and other tools will be tested. These Missions are extremely replayable, and you’re able to achieve a 1, 2, or 3-star ranking based on your performance. Naturally, there will be an “Infinity Ward time” that you can attempt to beat!
  • Mode Cross-Progression Rewards: As you complete any of the Special Ops content, expect to receive impressive rewards for your combat expertise. Examples include additional unlockable items and equipment that can be utilized in both Multiplayer and Special Ops Modes.
  • Loadouts and progression: Operations carry over all the Operators, Loadouts, and Progress made in Multiplayer. You have access to your own preferred arsenal to carry out any and all Operations in whatever way you and your squad chooses. Bring your favoured equipment, as well as your specific Operator, into the fray.
  • An Uneasy Alliance: The Armistice Fireteam: As these Operations involve a temporary alliance between Coalition and Allegiance forces, you’re free to pick any Operator you wish. Old differences are set aside. For now!
  • Cross-Mode Loadouts: Next you can bring your preferred Loadouts, including your preferred Primary and Secondary Weapons, Perks, and Tactical and Lethal Equipment so you’re comfortable in this new combat zone. Got a favoured Sniper Rifle or Shotgun that you’ve meticulously crafted, and tailored to your playstyle? Bring it along!
  • Know Your Roles: Specific to Special Ops are “Roles”: Prior to dropping into play, you’re able to pick from Assault, Recon, Engineer, Demolition, Medic, and Heavy. Each role comes equipped with a Field Upgrade and a class-specific perk. Pick the Role that best suits and reinforces your style of play.
  • Killstreaks: Prior to beginning an Operation, you’re able to pick three types of Munitions that offer a similar effect to Killstreaks in Multiplayer Mode. Those Munition boxes aren’t part of your equipment but are rather located in a random location across the map; it’s up to you to find and utilize them, whether you’ve chosen (for example) a Precision Airstrike or a Gunship to aid you.

Decided to give the campaign a go last night and really enjoying it great HDR graphics on PS4. MP is fine and a lot more enjoyable than the rubbish that was Black Ops4. I am waiting for Kill Confirmed to make an appearance. I don't mind the campers as I will come back and kill you for camping that's a promise.
